I was staying at the Palace Hotel in the center of Tokyo for a conference this weekend and I visited the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, which are now open to the public. Very pretty, even in Winter and sort of like Central Park - greenery surrounded by high rise. The first photo is of the otemon gate (mon means gate). Then a couple of the Koi ponds, set in a Japanese garden. There are tons of trees, many labelled, and old stone fortification walls from the Edo period (of the Incan or Roman scale of stone, but the stone is more volcanic looking than either of those).
