Here are some photos of my apartment in Kodaira-shi, western Tokyo, which is about a half hour from Shinjuku and an hour from central Tokyo. It also has a guest (children's) room with bunkbed. Nearby there is a long "green walk" alongside an old water canal that brought water into Edo (former Tokyo name) which has now been restored.
It takes about an hour to walk to my office, and about 20 minutes by train. I use both. Hitotsubashi U is an old university with a pretty campus and some neo-gothic buildings, I will try to post photos later.
I am mostly settled in, buying food is an adventure with all the labels in Japanese! I did manage to get wine vinegar after 2 tries, the first one turned out to be some kind of soy sauce. But there are a lot of stores, and they are open long hours, so it is very convenient. There is a "convenience store" - a Japanese version of 7-11, but much more useful, they even ship suitcases hither and yon across Japan and accept utility bill payments - open 24 hours 5 minute walk from my place.
